Charge Capture and the Large Group Practice

Next week a few of us from MedAptus are heading for a warmer climate in Grapevine, Texas to exhibit at the 2014 AMGA Annual Conference. This is a great opportunity to interact with several of our current large group practice customers that are members of the AMGA, as well as to talk with leadership from non-customer groups to understand the pain points they feel around their pro fee and technical revenue cycles. And thanks very much to our congressional leaders for the SGR fix bill and potential impact to the ICD-10 compliance date – we will certainly have a lot to talk about.

In the spirit of preparing for AMGA, I’ve assembled a list of facts about our work with a variety of multi-specialty group practices over the years:

  • Our first customer/development partner (and current customer/AMGA member) was Lahey Clinic, a 400+ doctor practice/hospital located outside of Boston
  • In terms of specialties we support with our end-users… you name it, our software is capturing charges for it (okay with the exception of pathology and radiology – in those cases we import charges for scrubbing from ancillary systems)
  • Most of our large multi-specialty customers enjoy seamless EMR integration between MedAptus and their clinical record (whether that be from Cerner, Epic, NextGen, Allscripts) – this interoperability enables access via a single sign-on and code passing to reduce the work associated with charting and charging tasks
  • Many of these customers also have outpatient hospital-based clinics where they also use our Tech Charge Capture product for easier split-billing
  • The financial impact of MedAptus experienced by these customers is demonstrable and repeatable across three core measures: decreased charge lag, decreased missing and lost charges and better business office productivity

When asked what separates us from our competitors when it comes to fit and applicability for multi-specialty practices, our answer generally revolves around the theme of “been there, done that.” Our software was originally architected for large groups with users across the spectrum of specialties and settings of care. We know a one-size-fits-all approach does not work – we also know in order to be adopted, physician-facing software can’t be overly complex with too many bells and whistles.

If you are at AMGA next week, please stop by our booth, #219 and introduce yourself, talk to us about the challenges you face, or even what works well for your revenue cycle – we are always interested in learning more about the operations and inner-workings of our target market. Can’t make AMGA but wrestling with inpatient capture workflow, HCC coding, ICD-10 planning or team-based care? Drop us a line!
